Pursuant to the Federal Law No. 67-FZ dd. June 14, 2012, effective January 1, 2013, it is mandatory for all carriers, whether legal entities or individual entrepreneurs, engaged in the transportation of passengers by any mode of transport, to maintain liability insurance coverage against bodily injury, death and property damage of passengers.
Compulsory carriers’ liability insurance was introduced to ensure appropriate and guaranteed compensation for harm caused during the transportation of passengers regardless of the mode of transport or nature of transportation, to create uniform principles for the calculation of damages and to establish procedures to obtain just compensation.
Proprietary interests of a carrier howsoever related to or connected with liability to pay as compensation for bodily injury, death or property damage of passengers.
The minimum levels of financial responsibility set by the Federal Law No. 67-FZ dd. June 14, 2012, to passenger carriers are:
Carriers that are not subject to the Federal Law No. 67-FZ dd. June 14, 2012, such as non-profit carriers, school bus operators, companies transporting their own employees and other similar carriers may purchase voluntary liability insurance.
